Watch Battery Charity Program – March – College Mentors for Kids
It is hard to believe that we are already in the third month of 2017. What is even harder to believe, though, is that this month will be our NINTH consecutive year supporting College Mentors for Kids through our Watch Battery Charity Program!
College Mentors, Inc., is an innovative non-profit that pairs youth with local college student mentors. Weekly the pairs participate in activities that expose youth to the opportunities of higher education. College Mentors serve over 2,5000 children with over 2,700 college student volunteers.
The mission of this terrific organization is to motivate youth and communities to achieve their potential by fostering inspiration to transform lives, education to change attitudes, and connection to increase opportunities. It was found in 1995 by two Indiana University undergraduates who wanted to impact the lives of children. After a year of planning, College Mentors for Kids was incorporated as a nonprofit in 1996. The mentor program was piloted with 18 buddy pairs at Indiana University and 12 buddy pairs at Butler University in the 1996-1997 school year. In 2008, College Mentors for Kids was expanded to include 1st-grade through 8th-grade students. Currently, College Mentors serve 35 college and universities across Indiana, Arizona, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Virginia, New York, North Carolina, and Ohio.
Mentoring relationships are no only beneficial for the children, but the college students, as well. Mentors learn about the resources their campus offers, leadership skills, and the need for positive role models in their communities.
None of this would be possible without the generous support of people like you! Visit either our Indianapolis/Fashion Mall Commons or Greenwood location to make a donation and have your watch battery replaced for free as part of our monthly Watch Battery Charity Program.
