OUR HISTORY

Reis-Nichols Jewelers is proud to be an Official Rolex Jeweler and of our rich history in the Indianapolis metropolitan area. Family-owned and -operated, our team is committed to the values founded and refined through each generation. In conjunction with the collection of luxury brands, the partnership with Rolex that started in 1992 has continued to elevate Reis-Nichols Jewelers.

1919: THE FOUNDATION

Reis-Nichols Jewelers was established as the Reis Company in the Indianapolis metropolitan area over 100 years ago. Founded in 1919, the Reis Company originally designed and manufactured finely detailed emblematic jewelry for various Masonic organizations.

1957: MOVING FORWARD

Decades later in 1957, William 'Bill' Nichols, the man who would lead the company to new heights, entered the jewelry manufacturing and wholesale distribution business under the tutelage of his uncle, Eldridge Nichols. Over time, Bill purchased his uncle's business and renamed it William P. Nichols Jewelers.

1973 - 1980: EXPANDING TO RETAIL

Located downtown, William P. Nichols Jewelers was focused on wholesale and manufacturing until 1973 when the building was unfortunately destroyed by fire. However, due to Bill's quick thinking, much of the inventory was saved, and the shop was able to reopen in a new location the following year.

1988: A NEW GENERATION

In 1988, Reis-Nichols continued to experience growth, which necessitated a move to a new location on the upper floor of 47 Pennsylvania Street in downtown Indianapolis. Later that same year, the next generation of the Nichols family took ownership and began to lead store operations. While the entire family is still heavily involved in the company, BJ and his wife, Lori, have taken over ownership, with BJ leading the company as its president and CEO.

1992 - 2001: DEVELOPING DISTINCTION

Since taking the helm, BJ has guided the company through years of dynamic growth in a luxury direction. That included a designation in 1992 as an Official Rolex Jeweler, making Reis-Nichols one of only a handful of retailers who are authorized to carry, sell, and provide certified repair services on Rolex watches.

TODAY: CONTINUING A LEGACY

The Fashion Mall Commons store was remodeled in 2017. Not only is it the headquarters for our stores, but it also features an expansive dedicated Rolex section for viewing watches and requesting services. In 2019, Reis-Nichols received the Governor's Century Award for its longevity and service to employees, community, and the state. During 2020-2021, our Greenwood location celebrated 20 years of establishment and underwent a total remodel. The now-renovated store includes a beautiful Rolex showroom that our clients and Rolex enthusiasts may visit.
