Fashion Jewelry Trends: Fall 2024 Edition

As the seasons change, and—if you live in our native state of Indiana, change and change and maybe change one more time all in the span of a couple days—we become even more aware that it’s not just our wardrobes that undergo a transformation. Jewelry, too, experiences the same evolutions. We’ve rounded up some of the latest trends in jewelry to keep your wardrobe and accessories fresh throughout the year.

Unique & Custom Designs

We’re seeing an exciting shift toward more unique and custom-designed jewelry. In today’s world, it’s easier than ever to find inspiration for curating our own unique styles and to see how truly accessible these adventurous pieces are. Re-designed and full custom pieces are not only a fantastic way to express individuality, but they can also serve as heirlooms, treasured for generations. One of our clients recently transformed her grandmother's engagement ring into a stunning piece that perfectly reflects her style and holds priceless sentimental value.

At Reis-Nichols, we have an in-house jewelry design team that specializes in creating one-of-a-kind pieces tailored to your personal taste. Whether it’s a unique diamond cut or an entirely custom design, we’re here to bring your vision to life.

Fancy Diamond & Gemstone Cuts

Fashion jewelry and bridal a like are seeing changes in fancy cut gemstones, with trends that add a touch of flair. While traditional fancy cuts like emerald, cushion and pear remain popular, there’s a growing interest in more unconventional shapes. Kite, halfmoon, and marquise cuts are being incorporated more, offering a fresh twist on classic elegance. Heart-shaped stones are also experiencing a resurgence, adding a romantic look to any piece.

Additionally, east-west set stones, which are set horizontally, and bezel settings are making a statement, offering a contemporary edge to traditional designs. These styles bring an extra oomph to your everyday look, making your jewelry stand out with minimal effort.

Personalization

Personalized jewelry is another major trend that continues to grow. From names and initials to meaningful dates and coordinates, customized personal jewelry allows you to wear something that is uniquely yours. Signet rings with a child’s initial, engraved necklaces, and even stud earrings spelling names or words add personal touches, turning them into cherished keepsakes. We have the capability to engrave almost anything in house with our laser engraver. A great way to make a special gift even more personal!

Pops of Color & Precious Gemstones

Colored gemstone jewelry is making a bold statement this season. Green is growing, and emeralds continue to be a timeless classic. However, we’re also seeing a rise in alternative gemstones like green sapphires, bi-color tourmaline, and spinel. These stones offer a vibrant pop of color, adding freshness to any jewelry collection. We just brought in a new designer, Piranesi, a family-owned jeweler that has some to the most brilliant-colored stones and styles I have ever seen! Pink and brown hues are also becoming increasingly popular, moving beyond traditional black and white neutrals to embrace a wider color palette, making it easy to find the perfect gemstone for any occasion. We have some of the most stunning pink diamond rings in the store right now.

Mixed & Alternative Metals

When it comes to metals, versatility is key. Mixed metals are in vogue, allowing you to seamlessly incorporate new pieces into your existing collection. Two-tone jewelry is becoming more popular across the board, but many are even eschewing stuffy “fashion rules” completely and mixing yellow gold and white gold pieces with out a second thought. Additionally, alternative metals like platinum, titanium, and blackened sterling silver are gaining popularity, offering a modern twist on classic styles. Designers like David Yurman and John Hardy do an amazing job of mixing metals in the pieces that they design…but one of our fashion icons on the Reis-Nichols floor often wears a variety of yellow and white gold daily. I would follow her lead any day!

Retro Revival

The retro trend is making a significant comeback, with a particular focus on "pre-loved" and estate jewelry, reminding us that everything old is, indeed, new again. This trend not only provides a more sustainable choice but also offers more bang for your buck. Vintage cuts and recycled diamonds add a touch of history and charm to contemporary designs. Pearls are also having a moment, being updated with semi-precious stones like aquamarine and other colored gems. This combination brings a fresh and modern twist to a classic favorite. We have staff members dedicated to finding the most amazing estate pieces. Everything from Cartier to Van Cleef & Arples to compliment the other noteworthy designers we are known for!

Bold & Structural Pieces

Bold and structural gold pieces are also making a statement this season. Channeling the styles of the 70s, 80s,and 90s (remember those heart-shaped diamonds mentioned earlier?), we’re seeing chunky chains, graphic and sculptural cuff bracelets, and oversized hoops become increasingly popular. Unique chain styles such as mariner, ball, herringbone, and snake chains are making their way into the spotlight, offering a distinctive and eye-catching look.

Men’s Jewelry

Jewelry trends aren’t just for the women to partake. Men’s jewelry is another area experiencing exciting developments. Whether it’s for birthdays, Christmas, or graduation gifts, classic silver or yellow gold chains are always a safe bet. Men are gravitating towards shorter styles, like 18” and 20” chains, as well as classic curb, rope, and box chains. Signet rings are also making a strong statement, and beaded and pearl styles are gaining popularity, especially in bracelets. These options offer a sophisticated yet versatile addition to any man’s wardrobe.

However, styles traditionally considered more masculine or more feminine are slowly blurring the lines between themselves, as we’re witnessing a shift towards more gender-neutral pieces. Jewelry styles are increasingly crossing traditional gender boundaries, reflecting a more inclusive approach to design. This crossover trend means that many styles can be enjoyed by anyone, regardless of gender. Many of our sales staff wear the larger, traditionally men’s watches and have you seen all of the male celebrities on the red carpet wearing broaches? Broaches aren’t just for your Great Aunt anymore!
